⚲ Treehouse Retreat | Durham, ON

During my travels this past year, i’ve had the pleasure of staying in some breathtaking Airbnbs! I’ve decided to start sharing these beautiful accommodations with you in hopes of helping you plan your next trip! I should start by saying that this is not a sponsored post, and that I used to be super skeptical about staying in Airbnbs. The idea of staying in somebody else’s home seemed like a weird concept to me at first...why would I want to stay in someone’s home when I can have my own 24 hour staff, concierge, and cleaning crew at a hotel? Alas, I've changed my mind! The first Airbnb I ever stayed at was the Tiny House in Collingwood, and it was so fun that I thought I should give it another go! To my surprise, I have stayed in some fantastic places, filled with way more character than any hotel. I’ve met several gracious and friendly Airbnb hosts and have had awesome experiences that I wouldn’t have had in a hotel. I still probably won’t be staying in a shared space Airbnb’s anytime soon, but Airbnb rental properties are my new go-to!

I visited the Treehouse Retreat after my friend Roxanne ( see her blog here) suggested a girls weekend! I’m not one to turn down a girl trip, so I was in even before she even mentioned the treehouse part. Five of our friends piled into Roxanne’s F-150, and after heading the wrong direction and drinking way too much coffee, we finally made it to the #treehouseretreat in Durham. The Treehouse Retreat consists of a treehouse, a cabin, separate bathing room, and a pool that is nestled next to a beautiful forest. Lynn Knowlton built this treehouse and cottage with her husband Michael in hopes of making it the ultimate staycation for them to enjoy while their children were young. They now rent it out since their children are grown. Lynn and her husband live on the property and are closeby if you need anything, but it is still very private and relaxing. We had the perfect girls getaway with our only complaint being that we wished we could have stayed longer!

As you can see from the photos, the cabin is absolutely stunning, I could go on about it for days but i'll keep it simple. Lynn has great taste and pays great attention to detail, so it has an amazing vibe and is stocked with everything you could possibly need. The space is decorated in beautiful whites with pops of soft colors and vintage pieces scattered throughout. It's bright, clean and you instantly feel relaxed! It’s the definition of cabin goals.

The cabin and the treehouse don't have bathrooms inside so there is a separate cabin with the toilet, sink and shower. These facilities makes the property feel more like a five star camp site...or rather glamp site! The bathroom smells like the Four Seasons and equipped with luxurious bathrobes and toiletries. And of course it is beautifully decorated!

Lynn and Micheal are such kind hearted loving people and it was so wonderful to get to enjoy their beautiful property and get to know them a little bit. They do close it down for the winter, but It is very popular and I would suggest booking it soon if you want to stay there next summer. It’s a perfect getaway for a girls weekend, couples trip, or a photo shoot location. It's not ideal for small children or big groups of people as there are lofts, ladders and only one bathroom. I also suggest planning your route out ahead of time because the cell phone reception is very weak and you don't want to get lost like we did. The area is so beautiful with a small town vibe, so pack accordingly because there isn’t much around! I also would suggest packing light because you are "camping" and you don't want to attempt any roller luggage here. I hope this review is helpful and you get to enjoy a weekend getaway here when the weather gets warmer! Check out Lynn's blog here for more information and to see what she is up to. -AM
